Ishkashimi is an important part of the Pamirs’ intangible heritage. This digital dictionary makes language material easier to access for speakers, learners, teachers, and researchers on both computers and phones.

The database contains 6,122 entries: 3,446 Ishkashimi-to-Russian entries and 2,676 Russian-to-Ishkashimi entries. Search ranks exact matches, word beginnings, and partial matches. The interface also provides an alphabetical index, cross-references, favorites, recent searches, and direct links to entries.
An Ishkashimi grammar reference is available on a separate page. The dictionary can be installed as a web app, and previously downloaded data remains available offline.

The lexical and grammatical material is based on T. N. Pakhalina’s The Ishkashimi Language (1959) and material from the “Remuzdlyftok” electronic dictionary (2013). Compilers: Nazarov Nazar, Vafo Khaydar, and Khadicha Jalolova.
The work was completed by the Gulu Giyoh public organization as part of the “Revival of Ishkashimi Heritage” project, with support from The Christensen Fund.
